Cat Spring is an unincorporated community in southern Austin County bordered by Bellville, which is the county seat of Austin County. It was originally founded in 1834 and named for a nearby spring whereupon was killed by one of the German immigrants. It is home to Texas is first agricultural society and the site of the station on the Missouri Kansas Texas Railroad established back in 1890.
Cat Spring got a slow start with just 350 people in 1836 and has grown ever so slowly over the decades. If you’re looking for an extremely quiet town, Cat Spring might be it. It’s nestled on the edge of Texas Hill country with thousands of wildflowers, local antique shops, beautiful countryside and quaint farm houses and ranches. We literally have less than about 100 people within the city or community limits, however, we do have a post office, a volunteer fire department, and several churches.
